We made good time on our flight from Edinburgh to Paris – we were half an hour early. Problem was we were too early and the ground crew wasn’t ready for us, so then we had to wait onboard for half an hour till we could disembark. That was ok because it meant the kids got the chance to sit in the cockpit with the pilots!
We were picked up at the airport by Manuel who owned the studio flat in Bastille that we stayed in. It was so great that he picked us up – we had no problems with all our bags and Peter’s broken foot! Our flat was small but well decorated with everything needed – including a really great shower! Manuel took us for a short tour of the area then we got some dinner from the supermarket and headed home for a late dinner.
The next day we were exhausted so after a sleep in we set out in the afternoon to see some sights:
Arc De Triomphe
Eiffel Tower
The next day we took a bus tour and saw the sights with a commentary. It was an excellent way to get around everything.
We ended up back where we started, at L’église de la Madeleine, a Roman Catholic church, previously built in honour of Napolean’s army.
From here we caught a metro to Notre Dame cathedral. which didn’ t really impress our kids.
However they did love feeding the birds out of their hands:
The next day we left Peter at home to rest his foot and catch up on some work while the kids and I went to..
The Eiffel Tower:
even with getting there half an hour before opening time we still had to wait in line for an hour or so, but we met a lovely family from the US and we all enjoyed talking to them.
We went home and picked up Peter to go with us to the Rodin museum, so we could see his statue “The Thinker”, something Daniel has been keen to see. I thought it might help him with his homeschooling if he saw how someone actually does think… as long as doesn’t start walking around the house with no clothes on…
Rodin’s sculpture “The Gates of Hell”
Rodins home. No wonder I can’t sculpt, I need to upgrade my residence so I can get some inspiration…
After the museum we went to see the Statue of Liberty.. not in New York of course, but in Paris..
The next day we went to see the Louvre – the outside that is! We decided we didn’t have time to do the actual museum justice and the kids weren’t too interested, so we roamed around outside, taking pictures!
Monday finally arrived to the kids delight – time for Disneyland!!
